October 18, 2011
I am sorry to see that Geoffrey’s is leaving us in San Carlos. Geoffrey’s has been in the jewelry business with diamonds and also a goldsmith. More info. is at geoffreysdiamonds.com

I had gone there several years ago when I was going through some of my Mom’s jewelry and had no idea of what was real or not. They went through the whole batch for me and explained what each one was, so I could had it down to more family members that were interested.
Geoffrey’s is having a 60% off sale. They have been in business for the last 28 years serving us with their jewelry and fabulous events that they had. Geoffrey and Sherry will be sadly missed.

San Carlos will pay new firefighters 7.5 percent less
July 13, 2011
The San Carlos City Council has agreed to pay firefighters who join the city‘s new department in October an average of 7.5 percent less than current ones. Well, I guess because they are new-bees and we are trying to protect our city and cut costs. A good way to start a job though.
In May the council decided to pay new firefighters 5 percent less, but on Monday night it voted 4-1, with Bob Grassilli dissenting, to cut the pay even more. The 2.5 percent difference in salary will save San Carlos an additional $75,000 a year, according to city officials.
San Carlos’ fire service costs should drop from $7.1 million a year to $6,078,107 after its joint department with Belmont dissolves in October and is replaced by a “hybrid” agency run by Redwood City, said administrative services director Rebecca Mendenhal. San Carlos chose to go its separate way several months ago after Belmont refused to pay a larger share of operating expenses.
In addition to paying firefighters lower salaries, San Carlos expects to save money by shedding its own command structure and avoiding some duplicative equipment expenses.
Firefighters hired to work for the new department will receive an average base salary of $85,092, among the lowest on the Peninsula, according to a city analysis.
Grassilli said he voted against a 7.5 percent salary drop because he fears firefighters would bolt to higher paying departments as soon as they get a chance.
I want to thank those that are willing to even be in this job with the risks and what they have to go through… I for one and grateful.
San Carlos Fire on St. Francis Street.
July 12, 2011
Wow, I haven’t heard of a fire in my neck of the woods for a long time. I am so very sorry for this family. What a trauma to go through. The fast-moving fire, which was reported just after 3 a.m., was already consuming the garage and kitchen of the one-story home at 1634 St. Francis Way when firefighters arrived, according to the Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department.
The fire was confined to the kitchen, garage and attic, and the rest of the home sustained moderate heat and smoke damage.
This two-alarm fire caused about $500,000 in damage to their home early Sunday morning. How very sad.
