Bethlehem A.D. Redwood City

December 10, 2010

A living Christmas experience for anyone. Every year Redwood City has the town of Bethlehem recreated for Christmas even. This year it will be on Dec. 21, 22 and 23. It is just for walking this year. Too many car problems before. It is held at 1305 Middlefield Road in Redwood City. You can imagine what it was like 2000 years ago when a baby was born. Hours from 6-9:30 pm.

Check out the flyer at http://www.bethlehemad.com/BethlehemA.D./Home.html

Each Friday night, beginning on Friday, December 10th, Redwood City’s Theatre Way will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6 pm to midnight, making it a more comfortable, inviting area for pedestrians.

Theatre Way is the beautiful, European-style street between Winslow Street/Middlefield Road and Broadway, featuring restaurants with outdoor seating, stylish paved streetscape and sidewalks, ornamental lighting, beautiful trees, and the main entrance to the Downtown Century 20 movie theater. Nearby is Redwood City’s Courthouse Square, site of many special events and festivals, and the central gathering spot for the community.

Each Friday evening at 6 pm, special decorative “bollards” (short vertical posts) will be placed at the Winslow Street end of Theatre Way to divert traffic, thus giving families, kids, and all pedestrians the opportunity to freely walk on the street as they enjoy the Downtown attractions.

While the new “pedestrian-only Fridays” starts during the colder holiday season, it will be particularly enjoyable during the warmer months and will offer the opportunity for additional events, activities, and gatherings on Theatre Way. Making Theatre Way pedestrian only on Fridays will also help to spread the crowds out during that busy evening, to make the sidewalks and business entrances more accessible and comfortable.

Pedestrian-only Fridays on Theatre Way are expected to continue at least through summer, of 2011 to take advantage of the Downtown’s primary event “season,” during which the City will assess the impact on traffic, as well as the improvement for pedestrians. An electronic message board will be in place at the entrance to Theatre Way for two weeks advising motorists of the upcoming Friday night closures.

Clowns, trapezes, and dancing dogs — no, this isn’t a Federico Fellini film , but rather an enchanting exhibition of traditional European circus.  I saw this last time when they came to Redwood City, and it’s a very fun and entertaining performance for all ages.

Running from Oct 14-24, Zoppé, an Italian Family Circus is a spectacular two-hour performance that will enthrall the entire family!

The Circus tent will be set up next to the Downtown Library at 1044 Middlefield Road in Redwood City and will host matinee and evening performances.  You can find the link to buy tickets right here.

Redwood City July 4th Parade

July 3, 2010

Our annual Fourth of July Parade in downtown Redwood City attracts thousands of spectators. Most of the budget for the Parade is used for cash awards to participants, of which many winners are from Redwood City.

We are proud that the members of our organization have operated the Peninsula Celebration Association since 1939 as a true volunteer group. Our goal is to help make our city not just a place to live, but a real community of people who care!!

This is a great event, parade starts at 10 AM and the festival starts at 9AM. Happy 4th!
