Lathrop Historical Home

Lathrop House is located in the center of Redwood City’s downtown area at 627 Hamilton Avenue, behind the old Domed Courthouse and opposite the Hall of Justice which is built on the site of “California Square” – a Spanish plaza style park – deeded to the citizens of Redwood City in perpetuity by the original landholders; the Arguello family and Mezes family.

One of the Peninsula’s oldest mansions, Lathrop House is an architectural treasure built in 1863 by San Mateo County’s first assessor-clerk-recorder and chairman of the Board of Supervisors, a man who later helped found the Southern Pacific Railroad and owner of a large tract of land in the Menlo Park area

Woodside Store Historical Home

I found out about this historical store when my daughter was in Grade School and went on a field trip here. Very fun.  Dr. Tripp and Mathias Parkhurst built the Woodside Store in 1854. Customers included loggers chopping down the redwoods. Dr. Tripp sold everything ffrom work books and ax handles to flour and ham. Later the farmers came and used it as a county store and post office until 1909.

It is a great place for a field trip. It is free. 650-851-7615 for more information.Woodside Store

Dracula’s Castle on the market…. Could you believe this was for sale? Ok, I know this isn’t in the RSB area, but I couldn’t resist. Of course, we (U.S.) wasn’t even on the map at this point. The family of the Dracula Estate has decided not to sell, but to make this landmark a museum. Some of this next sites are very interesting…
