March 6, 2010

More than 3,000 students, parents, teachers, school principals, and district administrators gathered before class yesterday morning to hold rallies at every school in the district protesting the budget cuts that are crippling school districts across the state. Proposed Youth Sports Area for Belmont/Shores

November 30, 2009

The Parks and Recreation Department is proposing a joint use agreement between the Belmont Redwood Shores Elementary School District (District) and the City of Belmont (City) for District owned athletics. This agreement is vital for community youth sports because it provides a safe and affordable home for youth sports in Belmont, providing the development of cognitive and social skills, teamwork, and health benefits that come from participation in youth sports. The proposed agreement would last 10 years and would allow the City to continue to use and schedule the four at District facilities. In return the City would continue to maintain the  field use at four fields: Fox, Ralston, Central, and Nesbit.fits f elds, while providing opportunities to expand summer programs.

District will not lose current revenue from existing users, and the City will not be charged for using the fields and pay half of the cost of watering. Under this new agreement the fields or other District facilities. Although the agreement will result in a slight increase in cost to the City, these costs will potentially be offset by the revenue opportunities created by the partnership. Without the agreement, the school district would have to incur the water and maintenance costs for the four increased fees for youth sports teams and requests for additional time on City and Barrett. The City and District are working in partnership to avoid that situation and to create opportunities for physical education and teamwork fields, resulting in fields, including the Belmont Sports Complex, Cipriani, McDougal, and Barrett. The City and District are working in partnership to avoid that situation and to create opportunities for physical education and teamwork in Belmont.
